It’s not for everyone. Is it for you?
Efforts to attract, recruit, and retain volunteers for emergency service to Town residents is an ongoing effort. There are very, very few reasons why someone may not qualify for membership, but there appear to be endless reasons why some do not apply. There are cliché phrases about the importance of Goshen volunteers, regardless of where they donate their time and efforts.
“What if there was an emergency and no one came?” is the most common that is used to attempt to stimulate interest in joining our ranks.
We would ask you this;
What prevents YOU from donating time to your community? Is it your family obligations, work, school, chores, hobbies, or your age? Current volunteers have families. Some with infants or young ones that need supervision. All of us either have careers or have retired from one. Some of us attend school, others teach. It is common that, as Goshen residents, we may have livestock to be fed, gardens to be tended, and household upkeep to perform. When a 911 alarm is received it means that someone needs help, often quickly. Those Fire members that can, leave their jobs, arrange for child supervision, and suspend other activities in order to apply their skills to the task at hand. What about you?
When you heard the wail of the Town siren, saw responding emergency vehicles, or passed by an emergency incident, what was it that you were doing or where were you going that prevented you from joining us and lending a hand?
Visit us. Get accurate information about how we operate, what is required, and how you can help. Give it some serious thought. Emergency service is important to those whose property is ablaze or threatened, and to those who are sick, injured, lost, or in need of assistance. Someone must do it, and you can help.
